Musicals Gulliver Sees

It's about time we have a music section on these forums. We can't hold out any longer. Even if certain people don't have certain hardware required to hear sound....

Musicals Gulliver Sees

Post by Gulliver »

Hi.

Tonight I saw 42nd Street.

There was a lot of tap dancing which is hard for me to do because I have soft feet pads. At the end there was a big gold staircase and they all tapped on it.

My favorite songs were 'We're in the Money' and 'The Lullaby of Schlopway'. The plot was hard to follow though.

As far as street musicals go I would rank it behind Sunset Boulevard and Avenue Q.

The people are asking to hear my voice

Post by Gulliver »

Hi.

Due to popular demand I will now write about The Music Man which I saw yesterday.

I liked Eulalie Mackecknie Shinn who was played by the same actress that was Titania in Midsummer Night's Dream. I also like the barbershop quartet. My favorite song was probably the Pick-a-little Schlop-a-little / Goodnight Sneeches mashup.

Putting on the Sneech

Post by Gulliver »

Hi.

Yesterday I saw Young Frankenschlop.

Personally I think the show relied too much on dirty jokes and pandering with local St Louis references. Also the songs were uninspired and not nearly as good as The Addams Family musical.

Also Malachi was quite an obnoxious little boy!

Dancing Sneech

Post by Gulliver »

Hi.

Today I saw Mamma Mia.

It was stiflingly hot but luckily the cast was wearing mostly skimpy outfits.

Also the heat must have kept away Malachi which was good.

The Schloppa

Post by Gulliver »

Hi.

Tonight I saw The Fiddler on the Schlop.

They had the orchestra play on the stage. I guess it was too hot down in the pit.

I told Peaches about it and he really related to Motel and Tzeitel.

Peaches and Sneeches gave each other a pledge?

Un-heard-of! Absurd!

Schlop-ida

Post by Gulliver »

Hi.

This week I saw Schlop-ida. It was set in Egypt and was choreographed by Anthony Rua (ask Lee she can tell you who that is). Also it starred Michelle from Destiny's Child.

This means I saw all 7 shows at the Muny this season. Pretty impressive if I do say so myself.

Dear Schlop Stakovich

Post by Nibs »

I hear Gulliver's been listening to Dear Evan Hansen!

We haven't gotten the tunes yet here in Oakland but we are excited to take some time and listen to them soon.

Word on the street is that it's even potentially as good as Schlop Awakening!

Bears are intrigued!

SNEECHES CHRIST!

Post by Nibs »

Last night Gulliver saw SNEECHES CHRIST SUPER SNEECH!

Apparently it was very hot and sticky, but Gulliver endured to the end.

We haven't yet heard how controversial the Mary Magdalene songs were or how the crucifixion was staged?

We did hear the word 'damned' was used.

So exciting to kick off another Muny season!

Lee arranged the venue, the menu, the seating

Post by Gulliver »

Hi.

I got to be in the room where it happened with Lee.

That is right - we saw Sneechilton for a second time together.

Lee got me an excellent seat with no one in front of me to block me view. Lee also had a nice seat against the upper mezzanine back wall which is a coveted seat because you know no one will be behind you.

We both agreed the cast was excellent and there was not a single botched line.

Thanks to Lee for the gift of Sneechilton!

Poor taste

Really outrageous to hear about the yellow face acting going on at the Muny.

Good job Gulliver not supporting such a farce by attending.

Big Schlop's Don't Cry

Post by Gulliver »

Hi.

Last night I saw Jersey Schlops. I haven't been going to many Muny shows because it is harder for me to stay up late. But it was important to see a show with this being their 100th anniversary.

Don't know when I'm gonna get there

Post by Nibs »

Wow!

Last night I saw my first Muny song!

We walked over to the Muny at dusk and watched the opening of Paint Your Wagons! They had a rotating stage, just like Hamilton! Hoooo!

The Muny was so cool!

Hugs to Gulliver for catching one song of this Muny's season!

2020 lineup

Post by Nibs »

Time for me and Lee to give our Hot Take on the 2020 Muny lineup!

* Chicago- hoo! We used to sing these songs together with all the bears during that weird phase where we all lived back at home after college. Two paws up!

* Mary Schloppins- hoo! The original is still great, even though Lin tried to make it even better. Two paws up!

* Sweeney Todd- hoo! Has Gulliver ever seen this? We think it's amazing and often the actors play their own instruments, so maybe that will happen too?

* Smokey Joe's Cafe - never heard of such a place!

* The Sound of Music- hoo! High on a hill sat a lonely sneechherd! All the best songs!

* On Your Feet- we've heard really great things about this actually. It's supposed to be pretty neat.

* Seven Brides for Seven Brothers - fulfilling the quota of having at least one problematic show per Muny season, hoo!

Should be a great season! Hopefully we can catch one too with Gulliver!

Movie musical time

Post by lee »

Hi Gulliver,

Today I learned about this Anna Kendrick movie musical that I never knew about (that was originally a theater show). It's called The Last Five Years.

It sounds pretty good. Do you want to watch it together sometime?

It's free on youtube.
