I'd say that Schlop has gotten pretty fleshed out over the years, too!

Simply Spectacular

Hullo there! It's been a while since I posted here, but I am pleased to report that this week Lee and I finished Book the Seventh!!

And I am also pleased to report that Book the Seventh was REALLY GOOD. Snicket is doing a better job of making the books into mysteries and keeping Count Olaf out of the way until near the end. Since we, the readers, always recognize Olaf, unlike every other adult in the books, it's less annoying to have less Olaf in the story. Anysneech, high praise (and paws) for Book the Seventh.

Here are some good lines:
After even the first few steps, the disadvantages of the bus ride seemed like small potatoes. "Small potatoes" is a phrase which has nothing to do with root vegetables that happen to be tiny in size. Instead, it refers to the change in one's feelings for something when it is compared with something else. If you were walking in the rain, for instance, you might be worried about getting wet, but if you turned the corner and saw a pack of vicious dogs, getting wet would suddenly become small potatoes next to getting chased down an alley and barked at, or possibly eaten.
In this large and fierce world of ours, there are many, many unpleasant places to be. You can be in a river swarming with angry electric eels, or in a supermarket filled with vicious long-distance runners. You can be in a hotel that has no room service, or you can be lost in a forest that is slowly filling up with water. You can be in a hornet's nest or in an abandoned airport or in the office of a pediatric surgeon, but one of the most unpleasant things that can happen is to find yourself in a quandary, which is where the Baudelaire orphans found themselves that night.
Lee is pretty freaked out about reading Book the Eighth though because it's called "The Hostile Hospital" and Lee already thinks Hospitals are plenty hostile without reading a book about it. I'm not sure what to do- she really doesn't want to read it!

Pleasantly Pleasing

Hey guys,

We just finished Book the Eighth, the Hostile Hospital. Much to our relief, most of the book took place in the Hospital LIBRARY and so there wasn't too much gore.

This line was fun:
"There were physicians carrying stethoscopes, hurrying to listen to people's heartbeats, and there were obstetricians carrying babies, hurrying to deliver people's children."
It'd be cool if we could finish all the books by the end of the year, but that's still a long way to go.

FUNNY LATKE

Post by Nibs »

Hullo!

Me and Lee got to read Lemony Snicket's Latke book today!!! It was so FUNNY and GOOD!!

The best part was when the Latke starts to point out how Christmas is really a pagan holiday but then he gets cut off... hoo hoo hoo. The other best part is when the family is in the woods and finds the Latke and they take him home, instead of cutting down a Christmas tree like you assumed they would and the Father says "I wonder why I brought this axe along..."

Hoo hoo hoo!

(It's funnier the way the book tells it)

Snicket's the best!

Accordiontastic

Post by lee »

Hey!

I just learned that Lemony Snicket plays accordion for the band The Magnetic Fields! Apparently they played here just a few nights ago and I missed them, which is too bad.

Oh well, way to go Lemony Snicket!
